Our history curriculum is designed to build secure, connected knowledge of the past through a carefully sequenced programme of study. Pupils develop chronological understanding and master key concepts such as power, migration, belief, and democracy, making meaningful links between periods studied.
Through the study of significant events such as the Roman Empire, the Great Fire of London, and the Industrial Revolution, pupils explore change and continuity over time. Teaching prioritises clear explanations, vocabulary development, retrieval practice, and the use of historical sources so that pupils can construct informed interpretations and secure knowledge in long-term memory.

Our history curriculum has been developed to ensure that it covers all aspects of the National Curriculum. History is taught in well planned and sequenced units and where appropriate links are made to other subjects. We have 4 substantive concepts which are weaved throughout the history curriculum.
We have a two-year curriculum cycle to fit with our mixed age classes. Our history units are sequenced in a way that allows for chronological understanding and progression. Each unit provides time to look at timelines in order to understand where this period of history fits within the past.
