Eco Council

At Hilltop, we believe it’s vital to educate children about living sustainably and help them play their part in protecting and caring for our planet. In fact, one of our School aims is to “ensure all pupils are supported towards achieving a healthy and eco-friendly lifestyle”. To help achieve this aim, we have established an Eco Council.

Children from all years meet on a half-termly basis with Mrs Sadula and Mrs Burton. The children have devised their own Eco Action Plan and have decided on school Eco priorities — these include: Energy; Waste and Mental Health Awareness. As a result, we are delighted to say that the School has gained a Bronze ECO Award!

Mrs Burton and Mrs Athey also spend the majority of their playtimes (with a group of children) sorting recycling for the TerraCycle Project! This means that families and staff can bring in items for recycling that would normally end up in landfill, such as crisp packets and bread bags. This has been an extremely successful project thanks to the commitment of these individuals.

Eco Council has currently been paused because of coronavirus restrictions but we plan to restart it again from September 2021.
