Welcome to Early Years (Reception and Nursery)

Our topics this year (2025-2026) are:

Autumn 1- Marvellous Me: This unit helps children develop self-awareness, a sense of belonging, and an understanding that everyone is unique. It builds confidence, emotional understanding, and respect for others, supporting personal, social, and communication skills.

Autumn 2– Celebrations: This unit helps children explore and appreciate different ways people celebrate, introducing cultural, religious, and seasonal festivals. It encourages curiosity, respect, and inclusion, while supporting understanding of community, belonging, and diversity.

Spring 1– Transport, Travel and Road Safety: This unit helps children learn about different types of transport, how people and goods travel, and the importance of staying safe. It explores past and present travel by land, sea, and air, while fostering curiosity, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Spring 2– Ready, Steady, Grow: This unit helps children explore how plants and animals grow and change, fostering curiosity about the natural world. It encourages caring for living things, observation of growth, and early scientific thinking while supporting communication and respect for the environment.

Summer 1– Once Upon a Time: This unit introduces children to traditional tales, fostering a love of storytelling, imagination, and creativity. It develops early literacy through exploring story structures, characters, and settings, while promoting morals, problem-solving, and empathy.

Summer 2– Dinosaurs: This unit introduces children to dinosaurs, exploring prehistoric life, types of dinosaurs, what they ate, and how they lived. It fosters curiosity, scientific thinking, and observation while supporting language development and understanding of change over time.
