Nursery

We are the Nursery!  In Nursery we have lots of fun playing and learning.  We do this inside or outside.  Our sessions are Monday - Friday 8.50 am until 3 pm (30 hours) Monday - Wednesday morning (15 hours) and Wednesday afternoon - Friday (15 hours).

In the Early Years Unit we plan a range of topics to ensure both Nursery and Reception children develop their skills and continue to be enthusiastic learners.  The topics are chosen to meet the learning needs and interests of our children.  Both age groups follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which is split into 7 subjects.  The children will learn through play activities.  A lot of the play activities are independent choices made by the child.  The children are encouraged to work at a focused, adult led, learning activity.  Learning will take place both inside and outside.  Early Years learning challenges children and encourages them to develop into independent, motivated learners and thinkers, full of curiosity about the world around them within a fun, happy and secure environment.  In the nursery, we do place an emphasis on social skills, and support toilet training to make your children independent.

Within the Early Years Unit we have a caring team, which includes a full-time nursery teacher, a full-time reception teacher and an HLTA.  As the children work and play, all staff observe and take note of what children do and say, and these observations are then used to inform the planning of the activities.  This will enable the children to make progress through the EYFS.

Our Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is based on seven areas of learning:

Communication and Language

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Physical Development

Literacy

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

Creative Development

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

These skills and competencies will enable them to cope with the demands of later schooling and life generally.

Children are encouraged to explore, enquire and to take risks in an interactive hands-on environment.  This includes the use of interactive whiteboards and computers, as well as dedicated high quality outdoor learning areas.

We do too many lovely things to list so please come and visit!
